i had the unique honor of shooting a ceremony at the pop-up chapel event on july 30th at columbus circle. the chapels were like pieces of art. impromptu structures that represent the equality of love, affection and unity between two people.

i was thrilled to be a volunteer photographer at this historic event and hope to continue my work to help the lgbt community celebrate this monumental step.

the ribbon chapel was stunning.

made from the most simple of materials, the ribbons would blow in the wind and bath you in dappled rainbow-colored bands of light.

the kiss chapel was constructed with corrugated cardboard.

john and jay are an ebullient couple in their sixties who have been together for almost 40 years. they are absolutely fabulous.

jay: “i don’t want to get them mixed up and blow this, but his fingers are MUCH smaller than mine!”

they were so much fun!

yes, they wore matching outfits.

in awe of the ribbon chapel.

so in love.

they couldn’t keep their hands off of each other.

i didn’t have to tell them what to do. they just showed up and lit up for the camera.

bathing in the rainbow light of the ribbon chapel.

we all can thank bex for this wonderful event. she is the co-founder of the pop-up chapels.

she also officiated john and jay’s ceremony.

very touching vows.

they had an amazing support system in attendance.

the kiss!

check out this TIME.com video of the festivities. i’m in there somewhere!
